A guide to creating a memorable time with Dad this year.
Father’s Day—the third Sunday in June—is the perfect excuse to step away from the daily routine and celebrate the father figures in your life, and there is no better backdrop for those memories than the vibrant summer season here in Rochester. Whether Dad is an outdoor enthusiast, a history buff, or simply enjoys good food and entertainment, you will find plenty of ideas to make the day memorable.

1. Take Dad Out to the Ball Game
Celebrate Father’s Day weekend at ESL Ballpark! The Rochester Red Wings are playing the Toledo Mud Hens from June 16 to 21. Stay for fireworks after the Saturday night game, or enjoy a Sunday afternoon game, when the kids can run the bases and play catch on the field with dad postgame.

2. Explore NY’s Military History
Take Dad on a historical journey through the region’s military sites. Choose from renowned forts such as Fort Niagara in Youngstown, Fort Ontario in Oswego, or Fort Stanwix in Rome, each offering unique experiences and breathtaking views. If you choose Old Fort Niagara, take advantage of the free Discover Niagara Shuttle with a round-trip scenic ride to Niagara Falls. If you choose Fort Ontario State Historic Site, Dad may enjoy the H. Lee White Maritime Museum.

3. Hike or Drive The Glen
Kickstart Father’s Day with an early morning hike through the breathtaking Watkins Glen State Park. Experience the beauty of the gorge before the crowds arrive. Then, indulge Dad’s need for speed with a drive on the historic race track at Watkins Glen International. Also, check out Watkins Glen’s Waterfront Festival at Seneca Harbor Park. This free, family-friendly event takes place the Saturday before Father’s Day and features a parade of creative cardboard boats, live music, delicious food, and shopping in the park.

4. Ride the Rails
For train enthusiasts, there are plenty of options for Father’s Day weekend. Take Dad to the New York Museum of Transportation, where dads and Grandpas are admitted free when accompanied by a youth ages 3–12. Alternatively, plan a road trip to enjoy a two-hour round-trip train excursion on the Arcade & Attica Railroad, where Fathers ride free when accompanied by a purchased fare!. You could also take Dad to the Medina Railroad Museum for a leisurely day, enjoying the detailed model railroad display and historic artifacts.

5. Stroll through a 19th-Century Village
Celebrate Father’s Day at the Genesee Country Village & Museum, where dads receive free admission. Enjoy vintage baseball games, diverse guided tours, and an immersive look at 19th-century life, trades, and heritage gardens. Guests can also explore the John L. Wehle Gallery, hike the Nature Center trails, and enjoy a variety of dining options—from chicken BBQ to historic sweets—before browsing unique gifts at the Flint Hill Store.

6. Find a Classic Car Show
If your dad is a classic car enthusiast, surprise him with a visit to the Father’s Day Car Show at Sonnenberg Garden and Mansion Historic Park. The beautiful surroundings will impress Mom and Dad alike!

7. Fill His Day with Amusement
For an adrenaline-packed day, visit Seabreeze, Darien Lake, or Roseland Waterpark, where you can spend a day with Dad on all his favorite rides. If you choose Seabreeze, top off the day with a round of golf at Parkside Whispering Pines, the oldest miniature golf course in the United States and a member of the National Register of Historic Places.

8. Cruise the Genesee River or Erie Canal
Embark on a scenic boat tour along the picturesque Genesee River with The Riverie, offering a range of cruises between Corn Hill Landing and Genesee Valley Park, with some extending to Lock 33 in Brighton. Alternatively, experience the impressive engineering of Lock 32 onboard the Colonial Belle from Fairport or the Sam Patch from Pittsford.

9. Fish the Day Away
Take Dad on a fishing expedition on one of Western New York’s freshwater lakes, rivers, bays, or the Erie Canal. Or, stop by a local hatchery like Powder Mills Park or Caledonia, to feed the fish.

10. Tap into Local Brews, Food, and Live Music
Discover local events that offer the perfect blend of delicious food, craft brews, and live music. Check out the event calendar of your favorite craft brewery or restaurant. Alternatively, try hosting a tasting at home with a selection of local wines, brews, cheeses, and chocolates.
