Akron Falls

Tucked into northern Erie County, Akron Falls Park spans 284 wooded acres and feels both approachable and quietly wild. Its centerpiece is a 40-foot waterfall along Murder Creek, where water spills over a broad shale ledge into a cool, shaded ravine below. Moss-covered rocks, mature hardwoods, and the steady sound of rushing water create a setting that invites you to slow your pace and linger.

Why Visit

Akron Falls autumn
Akron Falls Park

Akron Falls offers one of Western New York’s most accessible gorge-and-waterfall experiences. A steep, paved path leads from the Skyline Drive lot down toward the creek, making the main overlook easy to reach. Yet just beyond the viewing area, the landscape quickly feels more secluded, with boulders, tree roots, and narrow footpaths weaving through the ravine.

The waterfall itself changes with the seasons. After heavy rain, it roars over the ledge in a wide curtain. In late summer, it softens into thinner streams that reveal the layered rock beneath. Winter transforms the cascade into a towering sculpture of ice, drawing photographers and cold-weather hikers.
