Day Trips Around Rochester: The Book!

Day Trips Around Rochester: The Book!

With so many people inquiring about the future book, I created this short survey to help share meaningful information about its progress. The tentative release date is May 2023.

Text-to-Speech Editing

June 26, 2022 – Debi Bower

I wanted to give you a quick Day Trips Around Rochester-themed book update while also playing with the text-to-speech software available in Scrivener. I’m definitely not in the editing phase, but I mix up learning about the publishing process with writing and day tripping. Hearing the text read out loud is fascinating, and encourages my brain to process the information in a new way.

As you may be able to see in the video, I’m breaking up the book (books?) by topic, and breaking each topic down by a location’s proximity to the City of Rochester: City, Monroe County, Greater Rochester, and Surrounding Counties.

I’m also providing each location’s address, phone number, and website, if applicable, along with a short description.

I’ll also share some day-trip itineraries that will include a morning to evening plan for things to do, places to eat and drink, and routes to get you there and back again.

I’m hoping to keep the book to 200-pages, paperback, 8×5 so it’s easy to toss in your bag and take with you on day trips! Which is also why I think this may end up being more than one book.

Building a website with this information was way easier! But I feel compelled to create a print version to help us all spend more time offline.

Being pretty early in the process, I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas!

Book Process Update

May 22, 2022 – Debi Bower

Last week, my husband, Korey, and I enjoyed time with my daughter’s family in Tennessee.

On the way to and from, we stayed in Harper’s Ferry, Roanoke, and Gettysburg. We enjoyed taking Skyline Drive through the Shenandoah Mountains.

While in the Smokeys, we explored the national park plus Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Bryson City, and Cherokee.

Having spent the previous two years focused on exploring the greater Rochester area, it was time to experience a new place and broaden my horizon.

But it’s comforting to come home to Rochester. Driving through the Shenandoah, Blue Ridge, and Smokey Mountains, and along 80-MPH US-81, reinforced that I’m much more relaxed navigating the rolling hills of the Finger Lakes and Western New York.

I officially started writing the manuscript on Sunday, using Scrivener to outline the book’s structure. In addition to our website, I have several years’ worth of notebooks full of ideas to plot out. I’ll give you a sneak peek in a few weeks.

I appreciate your interest and am delighted you’re along for the ride!
