We have been to almost every ArtAwake event, now in it’s 10th year (2017). In past years, the goal was to get college students off campus and into the city, but for 2017, organizers are bringing ArtAwake to the University of Rochester campus.
What is ArtAwake?
In simple terms, ArtAwake is a community music, art and food event with engaging creativity that can be immersive, tactile, explorative, uncomfortable and brilliant. You’ll experience hundreds of art pieces by local artists, food from local restaurants, a diverse set of music from local bands on multiple stages, and a range of hands-on mixed- and multi-media activities. It is appropriate for all members of the community; families, professionals and students alike.
196 Annual Events Around Rochester
ArtAwake is an award-winning one-day ‘festival of creativity’ hosted by Urban Exploring a student organization of the University of Rochester. Our goal is to bring life to a vacant urban space in the City of Rochester and unite the community through the event. Please note that this year admission and parking is completely FREE.

Where have ArtAwake events been held in the past?
Each year, abandoned or currently unused spaces around the city are re-awakened to become a part of the exhibition. A gorgeous bank on State where the bar was in the vault. Buildings around the Public Market. The old Sibley and Alliance buildings on Main. Top floors of the old Chase Tower. An empty warehouse in Gates. It’s been fun getting to explore places that are otherwise off limits, many with great historic significance.
